Last year you helped Lulu Wild and our sister venues raise more than £32,000 for Birmingham Children's Hospital. This year the money goes to four-legged locals. Since 1 October, Lulu Wild has been a charity partner of Birmingham Dogs Home for 2026/2027, together with our sister restaurant Siamais and the rest of the Enchanted Ventures family.
Birmingham Dogs Home has looked after stray, abandoned and unwanted dogs across the West Midlands since 1892, around the clock, every day of the year. Our team went to meet the dogs and the people who care for them. Here is what they saw.
Three ways your night out at Lulu's helps
There is nothing to sign up for. Eat, drink and enjoy yourself as you normally would, and these small choices send money straight to the dogs:
| At the table | What goes to Birmingham Dogs Home |
|---|---|
| Your bill | £1 is added automatically. Prefer not to? Tell your server and it comes off, no questions asked. |
| Steamed jasmine rice | 20% of every portion sold |
| Bark Side cocktail (sloe gin, blackberry, bubblegum) | 20% of every sale |
| Gentle Spirit, the alcohol-free version (green tea, cucumber, apple) | 20% of every sale |
Bark Side and Gentle Spirit are new for the partnership, so ask your server for the drinks list when you sit down. Jasmine rice is on the food menu and goes with almost everything on it, so it is an easy one to add.
What a pound on the bill pays for
A pound does not sound like much. Spread across every table, every night, for a year, it adds up quickly, and the charity needs it. In its own words, Birmingham Dogs Home receives no government funding and relies entirely on supporters. These are its figures for a typical year:
- More than 2,000 dogs looked after every year
- Around 190 dogs in its care on any given day
- 230,000 meals prepared for them each year
- 1,549 dogs rehomed with new families
- 300 lost dogs reunited with their owners
- 43 puppies born to homeless mums at its centres
The charity also says 70% of the dogs it takes in have been abandoned. Every donation goes towards the day-to-day care of those dogs, support for local people and their pets, and rescuing and rehoming dogs who have nowhere else to go.

Inside Birmingham Dogs Home
The charity started in 1892 on New Canal Street in central Birmingham, on land given by Sir Alfred Gooch. More than 130 years later it is one of the oldest animal charities in the region, and one of the best loved. Today it runs two rescue centres:
- Birmingham Centre, Catherine-de-Barnes Lane, Solihull B92 0DJ
- Wolverhampton Centre, Dark Lane, Coven, Wolverhampton WV10 7PN
Rescue is only part of it. The team includes canine carers, a veterinary team, behaviour specialists and fundraisers, and they help local owners keep their dogs too, so fewer end up in kennels in the first place.

More ways to help Birmingham Dogs Home
If the dogs have won you over, there is plenty you can do beyond dinner at Lulu's:
- Adopt. Rehoming is the heart of what the charity does. You can browse the dogs looking for a home at both centres, puppies included, filtered by size, age and whether they get on with children, cats or other dogs.
- Volunteer. Birmingham Dogs Home runs volunteering and fostering for people who want to give their time.
- Sponsor a kennel or donate. Regular gifts help the charity plan ahead, and you can give in memory of a dog you have loved.
- Take on a challenge. Sponsored walks and events raise money and get you out with other dog lovers.
- Stay in the loop. Sign up to "Waggy Tales", the charity's monthly email, for news and dogs needing homes.
