Venue Hire in Birmingham

Canalside venue hire at Brindleyplace: three spaces across two floors for 25 to 200 guests, from a small room for an intimate dinner to the whole venue, with a kitchen and cocktail bar actually worth booking for.

Event space in Birmingham city centre, on the canal

Lulu Wild is a canalside venue in Brindleyplace with three event spaces you can hire on their own or together: The Nest for an intimate dinner, The Hideout upstairs with its own private bar for parties and corporate events, and the entire venue for anything bigger, from private parties and product launches to wedding receptions. Every space comes with the same kitchen and cocktail bar as the restaurant, so the food and drink are a reason to book rather than an afterthought.

What you can host here

A flexible event space

Three spaces across two floors means the room fits the event, not the other way round. The Nest is a semi-covered space with a retractable roof, heaters and its own outdoor access, for around 30 seated or 12 in a boardroom layout. The Hideout upstairs seats 56 or takes up to 80 standing. Hire the entire venue and you have the downstairs restaurant and bar, The Nest and The Hideout together: up to 200 standing or around 102 seated, with cloakroom, reception areas and air conditioning throughout.

Corporate events and meetings

For corporate events the practical things are covered. The Hideout has a hidden screen and projector for presentations, product launches and speeches, and The Nest’s boardroom layout and natural light suit daytime meetings, away days and networking. Lunch, canapés, a buffet or a seated dinner can follow without anyone changing venue, and client entertaining feels like an evening out rather than another meeting room.

Private parties

Birthdays, hen dos, engagements, leaving dos and team nights out all work as private parties here. A fixed space, a set menu and a bar behind you keep the planning simple, and the events team handles the timings, food and drinks so the person organising it gets to enjoy the night too.

Your own private bar

The Hideout comes with its own fully stocked private bar, so your guests are not queueing with the rest of the restaurant. Cocktails are made to order rather than pre-batched, and drinks can be set up as arrival cocktails with wine on the tables, a package per head, or a tab with an agreed limit.

Wedding receptions

For a wedding reception or an evening party after the ceremony, full venue hire gives you the whole building: standing drinks and canapés downstairs, a seated wedding breakfast for around 102, and The Hideout’s stage and baby grand piano for speeches, a first dance or a band. We are not licensed for wedding ceremonies, so the reception follows the ceremony elsewhere. Tell us the date and the shape of the day and we will plan the reception around it.

Transport links

Guests arriving from different directions is where city-centre venues earn their keep. Brindleyplace is about ten minutes on foot from Birmingham New Street, a short walk from Five Ways station, and close to the tram on Broad Street, with the Brindleyplace multi-storey car park two minutes away and night buses along Broad Street for the trip home.

Private dining space set under chandeliers at Lulu Wild, Brindleyplace, Birmingham

Finding somewhere in Birmingham to host a private event, without ending up in a hotel function room that could be anywhere, is harder than it should be. You want a bit of character, a kitchen actually worth booking for, and enough flexibility to take a group of twenty-five or two hundred.

Lulu Wild, on the water’s edge at Brindleyplace, is built for exactly that. Across two floors of neon, modern art and theatrical lighting, it hires out as three separate spaces or as a whole venue, for everything from a milestone birthday to a corporate reception. Here is what is available, what each space suits, and how to book it. If you would rather skip straight to it, the private events team will talk through your date and numbers directly.

Why Lulu Wild works for a private event

The location does half the work. Brindleyplace sits minutes from the ICC, Symphony Hall and Broad Street, and within walking distance of Five Ways and New Street stations. For a group arriving from six different directions, that matters more than almost anything else on the list.

It was built to be looked at. Two floors of neon signage, bold interiors and deliberately dramatic lighting give you a room that feels like an occasion rather than a booking. For a birthday or a hen do that is the point, and for a client event it does no harm at all.

The food is a reason to come, not an afterthought. The kitchen serves modern Chinese rather than the generic buffet most function spaces fall back on, which makes a genuine difference with a group that eats out often.

The spaces, and who they suit

Lulu Wild hires out in three ways. You do not have to take the whole venue, and for most groups a single space is the better and more affordable choice.

The Nest – up to 30 guests

A colourful, semi-covered area with a retractable roof and heaters, firefly lighting and its own outdoor access. It seats around 30 on round tables, 12 in a boardroom layout, or holds about 25 standing. It suits intimate dinners, smaller birthdays, baby showers, and daytime meetings or networking where you want natural light and a bit of the outdoors without depending on the weather.

The Hideout – up to 80 guests

Upstairs, plush and a little theatrical, with its own fully stocked bar, a baby grand piano, a mini stage and a hidden screen and projector. It holds up to 80 standing. This is the one for hen dos, big birthdays, product launches and any event with speeches, a playlist or a slideshow, since the AV is already built in.

Full venue hire – up to 200 guests

The whole of Lulu Wild across all three spaces: the downstairs restaurant and bar, The Nest and The Hideout. It takes up to 200 standing or around 102 for a seated dinner, with multiple bars, cloakroom and reception areas, air conditioning and AV throughout. This is the option for large parties, company-wide events, receptions and weddings.

What your guests will eat and drink

The menu is modern Chinese, served the way it works best for a group: sharing plates, canapés for a standing reception, or set banqueting menus for a seated dinner. Expect dishes such as crispy lotus salad, stir-fried chicken in preserved black bean sauce, and truffle spring rolls, with vegetarian options run properly through the menu rather than tacked on. Dietary requirements are agreed in advance rather than on the night. If a weekend group is what you are planning, the bottomless brunch menu is a ready-made package worth a look.

The bar is half the venue’s character. Cocktails are built to order rather than pre-batched, from signatures like the Lychee Martini to Prosecco, Champagne and wine packages you can set against a budget. For a private event the drinks can be arranged as arrival cocktails with wine on the tables, a package per head, or a tab with an agreed limit, which keeps the single most unpredictable line in your budget under control.

The events it suits best

  • Birthdays and hen dos – a fixed space, a set menu and a bar behind you keep the planning simple.
  • Corporate – meetings, away days, networking, presentations and product launches, with AV ready in The Hideout.
  • Christmas parties – book early; December weekends go months ahead.
  • Receptions and celebrations – standing drinks and canapés across the downstairs space or the full venue.

How pricing and booking work

Most Birmingham venues price private hire either on a minimum spend, where you commit to a set amount across food and drink and the room itself is not charged separately, or a room hire fee with food and drink billed on top. Which one applies usually depends on the space, the day of the week and the time of year, since a Saturday in December is a very different proposition to a Tuesday in February.

Rather than a fixed price list, every enquiry at Lulu Wild is handled by the events team, who build the menu, drinks and timings around your group and come back with a clear figure. Send your date, rough guest number and the kind of event you have in mind through the private events page, or call the venue directly on 0121 631 1739. Weekend and festive dates are worth securing as early as you can.
